Elsight on track to become the leading drone connectivity platform

The disruption caused by everyday activities being forced online due to COVID-19 social distancing cannot be underestimated. The disruption caused by everyday activities being forced online due to COVID-19 social distancing cannot be underestimated. Entire multi-billion dollar industry verticals such as education, healthcare and security are all scrambling for short-term stop-gaps, many not recognising the permanence of the change brought about by the pandemic, which continues to spread across the world.  Simply put, the world was ill prepared for the global pandemic, not just from a public health perspective, but a weakness in digital connectivity and solutions has been cruelly exposed. Elsight (ASX: ELS) solves some of the biggest challenges we face in digital communication today. By bonding existing mobile network channels, Elsight creates a seamless and secure way to transmit large amounts of data at high speeds and low latency.  Since launching in 2009, Elsight has provided secure and reliable video transmission solutions  to sectors including military and special forces. Fast forward to 2020, Elsight is now preparing to put Halo, its flagship product, to market. With Halo, Elsight is gearing up to access a very exciting market opportunity: Drone delivery. Elsight is an enabler for drone operators that assists in receiving the necessary certifications to fly drones over urban areas and out of the line of sight. Once Halo becomes the first connectivity solution incorporated in a drone that receives such a certification, the company is set to appeal to future major players in both the commercial and industrial drone industries.  “This will be a material breakpoint for the industry,” says Elsight Board Member, David Furstenberg.
“If you take the world’s largest players, it’d be almost ludicrous for them to try and develop a [drone connectivity solution] of their own when we have something that will shortly have the required licence to operate and support [beyond line of sight drone operations in rural and urban areas].”
Elsight is also entering the market for reliable cellular connectivity in rural areas around the world, especially in the United States. Upwards of 60 million Americans live in rural areas with little to no cellular or Internet coverage. As learning and health is brought online to try and combat the pandemic, the lack of connectivity in rural areas compromises people’s ability to access education and healthcare.
“We are now ready to go to the market in a very strong position and all they have to do is watch our recent and upcoming announcements to know there are much larger deals to come. In the next half year, we’ll see meaningful material revenues coming from these different market segments,” says David.
